How We Educate

After School Programs

Stanford University’s Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching examined after-school programs for at risk youth and found that arts based organizations had the most impact on at-risk youth. They offered the best opportunity for them to develop communication skills, complex thinking and problem solving. Our after school programs are designed to help children develop these lifelong skills. In collaborations with schools, organizations, local groups etc. Sankofa foundation coordinates after school workshops that prepares students for the above mentioned in addition to live performances and theatrical productions. At the end of each workshop all students who participated get the opportunity to be part of a live production

Summer and Winter Camp

In collaboration with schools, organizations, local groups etc. Sankofa’s summer camp program prepares students to excel in arts focusing on African contemporary and modern art, ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, music, dance, drama, theatre, Language arts and many more. All fine art student work is exhibited after which the students can take home to keep. Performing arts students end the camp with a live production. Outstanding students get the opportunity to audition to be part of SANKOFA theatre, a professional theatre company. Students who participate in these programs are trained to lead, coach others and serve as team leads in their school during cultural day performances as well as art exhibitions. Participating groups also get onsite training and support from the Sankofa Foundation team to enhance their cultural day celebrations. If you are interested in partnering/collaborating with us to host a workshop, in school residency, school assembly, give a lecture for your school, organization, local group etc.
